Project Description For our Mock Trial project we studied and recreated the case about Fred Korematsu. During the time of Pearl Harbor and the Japanese American internment camps, anyone who was Japanese or was Japanese descent was taken automatically taken into the internment camps. They were kept in those internment camps for years because the U.S had a suspicion that whoever did the bombing, was Japanese. When thousands of people were taken into those internment camps Fred Korematsu decided to runaway with his Italian girlfriend. He didn't want to go into the internment camps and he was Japanese Fred was already a target. He got surgery on his eyes to blue and tried to make him look less Japanese.
Q#2: Which team won? I was thinking that the Prosecution team won because of some objects that one of our lawyers made during the mock trial. One of the objections made was about a certain document on General Dewitt part of the document was made up and the rest of it wasn't. Other than that I think that both sides were very convincing and I think that the Prosecution side won because of the strong statements and evidence during the trial. But I also thought that the other side did really good with their witnesses and evidence.
Reflecting on the Process When this project started we studied what's just and not justice. We learned about these philosophers and what certain words meant. This led up to this big project with the Fred Korematsu case to determine if Fred Korematsu was guilty or not guilty.
